'Scrappy' Thief Gets Three to 12 Months

Quinten Watts, 23, of Prospect Avenue, Willow Grove, was sentenced to three to 12 months in jail and two years’ worth of probation after he and Dane Edward Sarden, 22, of Fairview Avenue, Willow Grove, allegedly stole metal from three different locations, according to a phillyburbs.com story.

According to the story, Hatboro police arrested Watts and Sarden on Jan. 6 as they were preparing to sell metal pieces they had allegedly stolen earlier that morning from Dudlik Industries in the 300 block of Jacksonville Road to a scrap metal dealer. The items included metal pipes and beams. A witness said he or she saw a silver Toyota SUV leaving the scene … and police found a silver Toyota SUV, with large beams hanging out the back at a scrap metal complex in the 400 block of Oakdale Avenue, according to the story.

Abington Police then questioned Sarden, and an arrest warrant was issued for Watts in March.

According to Abington Police, Sarden provided a written statement on Feb. 20 admitting to his role and Watts’ role in two separate burglaries in Abington in December, police said. Watts was charged with felony burglary and conspiracy.

According to police, the first burglary involved the theft of $3,000 worth of transmissions and radiators from Aamco Transmissions in the 1600 block of Old York Road; the items were stolen from an area secured by a locked fence and barbed wire. The other incident involved the theft of $2,000 worth of copper piping from a plumbing company in the 2300 block of Heston Street. According to police, the owner of the company saw two men — via security tape — remove the copper pipes from two vehicles parked in a driveway. The men then fled in an SUV.

Sarden in June pleaded guilty to his involvement in the incidents, according to the phillyburbs.com story. He was sentenced to 148 days to 23 months in prison and two years’ probation.

According to court documents, Watts was also arrested in April 2011 for simple assault and disorderly conduct, though the charges were withdrawn; Sarden was also arrested in August 2010 in Hatfield after he failed to give information and render aid following a crash.
