Abduction, Carjacking in Glenside

The alleged incident happened early Saturday morning on Waverly Avenue.

Cheltenham Police said five men assaulted a man, threw him in the back seat of his own car and asked for money for his safe return.

According to a philly.com story, the incident happened early Saturday morning at about a.m. in the 400 block of West Waverly Road; the five men and assaulted the victim and they all left the scene in the victim’s 2006 white Infiniti with the registration tag HTZ-7089.

About an hour later, a friend of the victim received a call from one of the alleged abductors asking for $50,000 for the victim’s return; the friend received at least eight more similar phone calls asking for money, police said.

The victim later called his friend and said that he had been released in the corner of Sycamore and Juniper avenues in Cheltenham, the story continued. He was taken to Abington Memorial Hospital and treated for non-threatening injuries.

It’s unknown whether the victim knew his assailants, the story said.
