William G. Miller, Former Abington Wrestler: Obituary

Miller, of Ardsley, was a graduate of Abington High School and a U.S. Veteran.

William G. Miller, of Ardsley, died July 29 at Mercy Suburban Hospital. He was 88.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Wilbur Aspril and Clare (Greger) Miller.

Miller lived in Olney until he was 8 years old, when his family moved to North Hills. Miller attended Abington High School and was the 1943 Pennsylvania State wrestling champion in the 112-pound weight class.

Miller enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in World War II. He  was honorably discharged in December 1945 after reaching the rank of Sergeant and returned to school and graduated from Abington.

He is survived by two sons, William B. and Michael D.; a daughter, Joan P. Maher; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Saturday, Aug. 3 at Carmel Presbyterian Church; a graveside service was held at Whitemarsh Memorial Park.
