Robert G. Thompson, Veteran, of Rydal

Thompson served in the U.S. Army and had his master's degree in sociology.

Robert G. Thompson, of Rydal, formerly of Wilmington, Del., died Sunday, Sept. 22 at Rydal Park Retirement Community. He was 84.

Born in Renwick, Iowa, he was the son of the late Otho Gaylord and Nora Belle (née Basye) Thompson.

He was the brother of Mary Smith of Riverton, Utah; uncle of Deborah and Mark Smith; and great-uncle of Daniel, Matthew and Aaron Smith.

Thompson served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was honorably discharged in August 1952. He received a master’s degree in sociology from Ohio State University and worked as a social worker in Delaware until his retirement.

Arrangements are by Wetzel and Son Funeral Home.

Services and interment will be private.
