Mario Gasbarra, husband of Rita (DeCicco) Gasbarra, of Abington, died Tuesday, Oct. 16. He was 83.
Gasbarra was the father of Theresa, Barbara Wilhelm, and Marie Rementer; brother of Mary Martella, Angie Gasbarra, Rose Gasbarra, and the late Frank Gasbarra and Barbara Lamina; grandfather of Jack, Lisa, Chuck and Samantha; and great-grandfather of Brayden.
Gasbarra had a great love for Abington Township and was active in the township. He was active with the Abington Township Police Athletic League organization, Meals on Wheels, and was president of Ward 10-11 Town Watch, and vice president of Abington Joint Town Watch Council. He was a member of the James A. Flahery Knights of Columbus in Glenside, and was also an avid bowler.
Gasbarra was passionate about the family outings, especially those at “Gasbarra Island.”
A viewing will be held Saturday from 9 to 10:15 a.m. at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 1500 Marian Road, Abington, followed by the funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Everyone who knows Mario should probably do a little bit more in the community, in hope that our combined efforts can make up for what he did for us. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. Thank you for being a kind man, Mario, because that is what the world needs.
