Joseph Maniscalco, U.S. Navy Veteran, of Rockledge

Maniscalco served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater; is funeral service is Wednesday, Jan. 22.

Joseph Maniscalco, of Rockledge, Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Lancaster General Hospital. He was 87.

Born in Tampa, Fla., he was the son of the late Peter and Fortune (Maggio) Maniscalco. He was the widower of Anastasia Maniscalco.

Raised in Tampa, Maniscalco joined the U.S. Navy after high school and was stationed on the USS New York. He saw action in the battles for Okinawa and Iwo Jima as an anti-aircraft gunner.

Following his time in the Navy, Maniscalco moved to south Philadelphia and became a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 19. He also took some continuing schooling and became a draftsman.

He is survived by two daughters, Valerie Ann Lehman and Michele Maniscalco; two sons, Peter and Joseph Maniscalco; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held Tuesday, Jan. 21 from 6 to 8 p.m.; and Wednesday, Jan. 22 from 10 a.m. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge. A funeral service will follow Wednesday at 11 a.m.  Interment will be at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown.
