County Offering Discounted Rain Barrels, Compost Bins

Score some free water and decrease your trash.

Montgomery County will host a joint compost bin and rain barrel truckload sale on Saturday, May 19 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Greater Plymouth Community Center, 2910 Jolly Road, Plymouth Meeting.

Compost bins, valued at $100, will be available for sale at $45 including tax. Rain barrels, valued at $120, will be available for sale at $55 including tax. Cash, checks and credit cards, Visa and Master Card, will be accepted.

“This is a great opportunity for Montgomery County residents to recycle and reuse their food scraps, yard waste and rain water,” Montgomery County recycling director Chris Kaasmann said in a press release. “Through composting, residents can decrease their trash output by 10 to 30 percent while providing a great soil amendment for their yard. Collecting rain water can help the environment and our wallets by reducing potential storm water runoff while also providing free water for yard plants and vegetation.”

The sale will happen rain or shine and all items will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis, while supplies last. Both the compost bins and rain barrels should be able to fit in most cars. Please plan accordingly.

I missed out on these and should probably look into getting one. It make no sense buying lawn bags and putting stuff curbside because not a week goes by where I don't have to call David Manzinger's office letting them know that the trucks skipped my house. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. They should start paying me instead of taxing me for picking this up. No other job could you get away with failing to do your work with such consistency, unless you work for Abington Township.

Take the easy way out - for about $20 plus or minus with tip go to the Mexican guys in Quakertown.Read More They are on the south bound side where the old battery warehouse was - directly across from the big car wash on 309. They did my SUV for $25 including generous tip - inside and out, dressed the tires and did the windshield about 3 times! These guys are fantastic and really do a great job for the money.
