Health & Fitness

life in the fast lane societal norms, have actually had adverse effects on our overall health and nutritional needs being met

During a block of instruction for my certification as a physical fitness coordinator, we were studying nutrition and health. During this particular portion it was interesting to note how recent, "life in the fast lane societal norms", have actually had adverse effects on our overall health and nutritional needs being met. The course pointed out the following facts;
As people now work longer hours, less time is available for the selection and preparation of healthy foods to eat. This has lead to our ever increasing reliance on prepared foods, fast foods, ordering in, eating out and loss of control over the quantity and quality of the foods that we are eating. When we eat out, we have the ability to select the healthiest items available on the menu, but we have little or no influence over the way it is prepared. Consequently, we eat to way much food, calories, saturated fat, salt and we run the risk of being shortchanged in other areas of beneficial nutrition as well.
"Work" once implied physical exertion, but today few of us burn many calories at work or even after work for that matter. Many of us spend leisure time in front of the TV set, a computer, phone, tablet or a video game. Fewer people walk or engage in vigorous activity on a consistent or sustainable basis and even our children seem to have a decreased exposure to, or interest in physical activities. Instead, they stay inside after school, just hang out, play video games, text, tweet or use all of the other modern communication methods that are out there instead.

The convergence of these changes in eating and activity, make seeking out proper nutrition even more important than ever before.

This portion of the course made a good case for the importance of “Proper and Individualized” nutritional supplementation in order to help bridge the nutritional gaps that are created by current eating and exercise habits. It is important to note, that no two people have the same nutritional needs and or eating habits. Therfore individualized nutritional supplementation should be sought in order to bridge those nutritional gaps. This will help to promote, achieve and sustain good overall health and wellness for your body.
