Ken Ludwig's Leading Ladies, at The Village Players of Hatboro

Deception. Betrayal. Men in poorly fitting dresses. Expect all that and more as The Village Players of Hatboro kick off their 66th season with the hilarious farce Leading Ladies, by playwright Ken Ludwig (writer of the Tony Award winning Lend Me a Tenor and Crazy For You).

When down on their luck actors Leo  (Walter March) and Jack (Tim Schumann) learn that heiress Florence Snyder (Anastasia Cleaver) wants to leave part of her fortune to her long lost relatives Max and Steve, they think that things are about to change; impersonate Max and Steve, collect the money, and run. Then they find out that Max and Steve are actually Maxine and Stephanie. With nothing but a few costumes of some of Shakespeare’s greatest female characters, such as Cleopatra and Titania, Queen of the Fairies, they decide to give it a try.

Things become more complicated when Leo, as Maxine, begins to fall for Florence’s niece, Meg (Ashley Scheiber). Worse, Meg is engaged to the local minister Duncan (Bob Petrik), who is immediately suspicious of the “ladies.” And poor Jack can’t help but fall for the lovely, but ditzy, Audrey (Sarah Graham), yet his alter ego Stephanie has drawn the eye of both Doc (Clint Cleaver) and his son Butch (Sean Hegarty). Their desperate attempts to keep themselves under cover (and in high heels) will have you rolling on the floor.
