Cheltenham Art Center Announces Winners

The Cheltenham Center for the Arts opened the 72nd Annual Members Show to an energetic and enthusiastic crowd of members, guests and family. The exhibition features work by over 100 members.

This vibrant and varied exhibition is an opportunity for all members to showcase their creativity and talent in the community.

Deirdre Murphy, lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania, was the juror for prizes in the exhibition.

“The breadth of work from the Cheltenham members was delightful and inspiring from the beginner painter to the established artist, each work had merit and promise,” she said in a statement. 

The Award Winners are as follows:

• Juror’s Award - Paul Gorka, Potatoes, Grapes, oil.
• Dottie Sloan Memorial Award - Donna Douglass, Urban Landscape, monotype, pictured.
• Alma Finestone Family Award - Michael Weinert, Cumulus Clouds, Rehboth Beach, oil.
• Alma Finestone Memorial Award – Gail Goren, Cats 'n Flowers, Mixed Media.
• Linda Gitterman Brener Award for Sculpture – Nan Wurman, China’s Great Wall, Stoneware.
• Print Guild Award in Memory of Les Spandorfer – Esther Rose Fisher, Volcano, Monoprint.
• Clay Guild Award – Ellen Pine Litwin, Casserole, Stoneware.
• Artist Culutral Exchange Award - John Strawn, Untitled, Drawing.
• Nina Magil Hausner Award – Rosalind Reichstein, Mission Unity Impossible Landed, Acrylic.

Honorable Mentions went to the following artists:

• Mark Garvin, Chance Double Exposure, Black & White Silver Photograph
• Josie Ostroff, The Phillies History – Making the 2011 Season, Mixed Media
• Dennis Millar, A Stroll Through the Park, Oil

Murphy continued, “As an artist and educator I saw merit in all levels. The range of printmaking was especially satisfying both technically and conceptually. It was an honor to view such dedication and I commend each artist for his or her talents and pursuits.”

The show will remain on exhibit through Feb. 3. The Cheltenham Center for the Arts is located at 439 Ashbourne Road, Cheltenham.
