Attention Abington Bikers and Runners ...

Abington Police and C.A.P.T. are looking for runners and riders for its Run and Ride Day this Sunday at the North Penn VFW.

 

The Abington Police Department and Citizens and Police Together are sponsoring the C.A.P.T. Run and Ride Day on Sunday. The event, which includes a 5K run and a 1-mile walk through Glenside, as well as a 60-mile police-escorted motorcycle ride through Montgomery County, will help raise funds for the Abington Police Department’s DARE program in Abington’s public, private and parochial schools.

This event starts at North Penn VFW Post 676, 2519 Jenkintown Road, Glenside.

Registration for the run and walk begins at 7:30 a.m. with the events starting at 8:30 a.m.; registration for the motorcycle ride begins at 9:30 a.m., with the event starting at 10:30 a.m.

The cost is $20 for bikers and $10 for additional riders; runners and walkers will pay $25.

Awards will be given to the top male and female runners, as well as the top three male and female finishers in the following age categories: up to 18 years old; 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60-plus.  Both events culminate with food and raffles at the VFW.

C.A.P.T. is the police department’s organization that raises funds for child safety programs, including DARE; KISS (Kids In Safety Seats); and youth aid panels.  It also provides student scholarships and mini grants for community projects that benefit the township’s youth.
