The Abington Board of Commissioners last night approved an ordinance that moves up the starting times of the township’s committee meetings and full board meetings by 30 minutes.

Starting in April, township committee meetings will start at 7 p.m. and the full board of commissioners will meet at 7:30 p.m.

Township Manager Michael LeFevre said the issue would normally be discussed at a public affairs committee meeting, but added that the township calendar is set to go to print in mid-February … so the full board had to tackle the issue.

And most of the board members seemed OK with it.

“I love this and I wish I had thought of it. We should have done this sooner,” Commissioner Peggy Myers said.

Commissioner John Spiegelman said the ordinance has “his wife’s approval.”

And LeFevre said jokingly that, “Most of the department heads are not teenagers anymore, and we start to fade by 10 p.m.”

You have to see Thursdays meeting. The word "transparency" kept being used. Watch the first order of business. The idea of looking at other solicitors was brought up, not a bad idea. The process you have to see is HOW it was brought up. Two commissioners Kline and Luker were the only ones that knew about it supposedly. Is this the TRANSPARENCY the new board is bringing to our community? It was also nice to see our local commissioner Bowman finally spoke more than three words and called for a vote on the subject. Watch out Abington, is this really what we wanted in our local government, hey the Republicans had their critics but to come out of the gate like this makes them look not as bad as we made them out to be. Watch out neighbors, is this the transparent change we kept hearing about.........

this past Thursdays meeting was an absolute disgrace, I hope that people complain to their respective commissioner about the poor conduct they showed , watch your government channel 43 .changing the time because their not teenagers any more ? that comment shows me, lack of respect for their taxpayer funded jobs .if you cannot handle the late the night , you should not be working their . if your too old then get out ..
