Abington Meeting Times to Change

Commissioners, staff and residents will be getting home earlier.

The Abington Board of Commissioners last night approved an ordinance that moves up the starting times of the township’s committee meetings and full board meetings by 30 minutes.

Starting in April, township committee meetings will start at 7 p.m. and the full board of commissioners will meet at 7:30 p.m.

Township Manager Michael LeFevre said the issue would normally be discussed at a public affairs committee meeting, but added that the township calendar is set to go to print in mid-February … so the full board had to tackle the issue.

And most of the board members seemed OK with it.

“I love this and I wish I had thought of it. We should have done this sooner,” Commissioner Peggy Myers said.

Commissioner John Spiegelman said the ordinance has “his wife’s approval.”

And LeFevre said jokingly that, “Most of the department heads are not teenagers anymore, and we start to fade by 10 p.m.”
