Abington Gets Ready to Wobble

The Abington YMCA’s annual Thanksgiving-morning race brings in thousands of dollars for the YMCA’s Annual Campaign

The Abington YMCA is celebrating its tenth annual Gobble Wobble 5K run and 2-mile walk on Thanksgiving at 9 a.m.

The USA Track and Field-certified 5K and walk will bring more than 2,000 walkers, runners and joggers to the area.

Check out the map of the race on the USATF.org website here.

In addition to clogging the streets for the morning, and giving participants a way to burn some calories before their feast, the Gobble Wobble will raise money for the YMCA’s financial assistance program.

Abington YMCA marketing and communication director (and Gobble Wobble run director) Beth Kenas said last year that the Abington YMCA doled out hundreds of thousands of dollars in assistance for memberships, childcare and summer camp. Kenas said that the Abington YMCA has the largest summer camp of any area Y.

“We don’t turn anybody away,” Kenas said. “Basically everything we do is to raise money and to give back to the community. I think that’s why the Gobble Wobble got so big.”

Registration on the day of the race happens from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at the Abington YMCA. Cost for adults is up $5 over last year to $35; cost for children under 12 years old is up $2 to $12. The race starts at 9 a.m. and features automated chip timing.

For a list of last year’s results, check out the pdf above and to the right.

For serious runners, the 5K’s certification code is PA09018WB; and the elevation ranges from 263 feet to 361 feet, according to the USATF website.

Take the easy way out - for about $20 plus or minus with tip go to the Mexican guys in Quakertown.Read More They are on the south bound side where the old battery warehouse was - directly across from the big car wash on 309. They did my SUV for $25 including generous tip - inside and out, dressed the tires and did the windshield about 3 times! These guys are fantastic and really do a great job for the money.
