A Section of Horace to be Milled Monday

Milling will begin on Horace Avenue starting early Monday, followed by milling on Highland Avenue.

Horace Avenue, between Old York Road and Highland Avenue, will be getting a facelift starting Monday Aug. 1, according to Abington Public Works Director Ed Micciolo.

The portion of the road, which sits between the township building and part of Abington Memorial Hospital, will be milled starting at about 7 a.m. on Monday. The milling will continue through Tuesday, Micciolo said.

Then, Highland Avenue, between Horace Avenue and Old York Road, will be milled starting Wednesday and continuing through Friday of the same week.

The milling process uses a grinder to remove the top 2-and-a-half inches of pavement.

According to Micciolo, Aqua Pennsylvania recently installed new water lines under Horace and Highland avenues — hence the need for milling.

He added that the water company will pay for the milling and subsequent paving, which is likely to start Monday, Aug. 6.

The estimated cost of the project is about $60,000.

Micciolo said traffic in and out of the hospital on Horace Avenue won’t be affected, adding that the Abington Public Works Department has made arrangements with the hospital.
