OLDER ADULTS CREATE TILE MOSAIC

Senior Citizens Share What Living Independently at Home Means to Them

More than 150 senior adults of Montgomery County celebrated “Aging at Home” on June 24 by collaborating on a mural project to represent what safe and healthy independent living means to them. Attendees used markers, paint and other art supplies to decorate five-by-five inch canvas squares that were attached together to create a six-foot mural. The project embodied the theme of the event, “The Art of Living Independently: A Celebration of Senior Adults,” which promoted Aging at Home-A Community Network, a new, local resource. The program, provided by VNA-Community Services, Inc. of Abington, offers services and support to older adults to make living in their homes a safe and comfortable option.

The event was attended by 20 senior-friendly services that offered information, health screenings and giveaways including tote bags, coffee mugs and food. Guests were treated to a complimentary lunch and listened to a live performance while they learned more information about Aging at Home–A Community Network.

The program works to connect older adults to the programs and services they need to live a healthy and comfortable lifestyle in their own homes. Aging at Home–A Community Network can enhance the health and well-being of senior adults by connecting them with reliable, vetted in-home and community-based resources and services. Offerings are flexible and adaptable, which means that as needs change, the number and intensity of services offered under the program can support these changes.

Membership in Aging at Home-A Community Network is free. The program is coordinated locally by VNA-Community Services, Inc. and funded by the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey.
