Abington Library To Host College Possibilities Founder Rachel B. Sobel, Ph.D. for Seminar on College Planning for Students with Learning Differences

Dr. Sobel will discuss how to approach the college search and application process for students facing learning challenges, including Asperger’s and ADHD.  In addition, she will outline the differences between high school and college in obtaining support. 

“Given the unique needs of students with one or more diagnoses, finding the right support is essential to a student’s academic, social and emotional success,” explains Sobel.

Sobel is a licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Ph.D. in Counselor Education. She has more than 30 years of experience working with adolescents and their families as a psychotherapist, college counselor and educator. Rachel’s background and experience provide her with a unique perspective on guiding families through this major life event, and particularly addressing the issues facing a student with learning challenges. Dr. Sobel typically visits colleges and their disability support staffs on average one week per month.

This session will focus on helping college-bound students and their parents understand how to assess and request programs and support targeted to the academic, social, and emotional needs of students with learning disabilities.
