STEM Education and Girls

Have you heard the buzz about STEM education specifically related to girls? Well if you haven’t you will ... STEM refers to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Studies show that women are outnumbered by men in the science and engineering fields. There has been a movement or trend in getting more girls involved in STEM Education.

The environment plays a big role in getting girls into these science, math and engineering and technology fields. It is important to promote these subjects and give them access and experiences in these areas. Resources in STEM are increasing in our nation for girls.

Here are some resources for your daughter (preschooler to teen) to get more involved in STEM:

SciGirls: a series on PBS that stimulates a girls’ interest in math and science

Robots for iPad: an interactive app best for tweens, teens that are interested in robots

Codeacademy: this interactive site gives teens a hands-on experience with coding
