Abington Art Center offers a preview to its Solo Series ... paired with wine
Is there a better pair than wine and art? OK, maybe wine and cheese, or wine and chocolate, but they’re not nearly as interesting to look at. Tonight, the Abington Art Center will hold “Uncorked: Pairings of Art, Wine and Food. The event will feature contemporary artwork from artists: Each artist is part of the Abington Art Center’s Solo Series 2012 this summer. The series kicks off May 20 with a public reception and opening party. See more about the artists and the Solo Series. The Cheltenham Center for the Arts, along with Open Book, will hold the next session in its author conversation series, Philly Writes!, tonight from 7 to 8 p.m. Two local authors will read from their respective novels. Each deals with family issues. That's the radius where AMS Planning and Research Corp., the Connecticut firm hired by the task force as its consultant, will focus its market analysis for the renovation and programming of the former Masonic temple on Lansdale's Main Street into a community arts and entertainment mecca. Trumpeter John Swana performs
The Cheltenham Center for the Arts will host its last Jazz Bridge Neighborhood Concert of the season tonight at 7:30 p.m.; trumpeter John Swana will perform. For more about Swana, click here. The Jazz Bridge project provides funding that assists with the health care costs of jazz musicians while making music an integral part of the community, according to the CCA website. Fort Washington School of Rock House Band and Junior House Band will perform a benefit concert at The Limit in Blue Bell, for Mattie Dixon Community Cupboard.
The School of Rock Fort Washington’s House Band and Junior House Band will be performing a benefit concert at The Limit Bar and Restaurant on April 27 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. The cover charge for the night is one non-perishable food item. All food collected during the evening will be donated to the Mattie Dixon Community Cupboard in Ambler. The Community Cupboard has been helping the less fortunate in our community for over 30 years, providing food, clothing, household items, and more, to those whose incomes fall below the poverty line. The high school's Royal Masque will perform 'Fame' this weekend.
"Fame" is said to be nothing short of a global phenomenon — it was a hit motion picture, a television series, and hit Broadway. Now, the Bishop McDevitt Royal Masque promises to live up to the phenomenon. The show takes place in New York City in the early 1980s at the High School for the Performing Arts. It explores the timeless stories of youth growing up with diversity, prejudice, identity and self-worth. Performances will be held: Tickets are $12 and may be purchased at the door. The highly anticipated adaptation of the popular young adult books is finally hitting the big screen.
Based on the popular Young Adult series by author Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games, brings the distopian world of Panem to local cineplexes. Students of Settlement Music School’s Advanced Study Ensemble performed for the first time at the school's newest branch in Willow Grove.
Twenty-two very talented young musicians performed in the Willow Grove Branch of Settlement Music School on March 11. Each year Settlement hosts its Advanced Study Ensemble Recital as part of its Joseph and Marie Field Chamber Music Program. The young musicians, who were mostly in their early teens, represented the most talented and dedicated from the school’s six branches, located in and around the greater Philadelphia area. The March 11 event was the first time the Willow Grove Settlement branch hosted the Advanced Study Recital, which drew nearly 150 people in the audience. “It was an outstanding representation by the audience,” Patricia Manley, Willow Grove Settlement branch director, said. “Everybody is welcomed to attend.” The …
