YMCAs Open Doors to Those Without Power
The Abington and Ambler YMCAs will offer their facilities to those in need – membership or not.
Update: The Abington YMCA will also offer its facilities to needy residents on Thursday, Nov. 1.
The YMCA of Philadelphia and Vicinity said this morning that the Abington YMCA and Ambler Area YMCA will open their doors to local community members who have lost power and may be in need of assistance in the coming hours.
Both YMCAs invite youth, adults and families to utilize their facilities for taking warm showers and charging electronic equipment.
“We know that many of our friends and neighbors have been impacted by Hurricane Sandy and we want to make sure we can assist them during this time of need,” John Flynn, President and CEO of the YMCA of Philadelphia and Vicinity said. “We encourage anyone that needs to charge any electronics or to take a warm shower to contact the Abington or Ambler Area YMCA right away.”
Community members do not need to be YMCA members to use the facility. Those interested in using the Y today must simply present an ID and fill out a guest pass.
- The Abington YMCA, located at 1073 Old York Road, will be open from until 10 p.m.
- The Ambler Area YMCA, located at 1325 McKean Road, will be open until 10:30 p.m.
