Abington Postal Worker Accused of More Mail Thefts

More step forward alleging theft at the Abington Post Office following an employee's arrest late last month.

Abington Police Deputy Chief John Livingood said Thursday that several people have reached out to police claiming that they have had items stolen from greeting cards. The complaints are on the heels of a late-April arrest of a postal worker assigned to the Abington Post Office.

According to Livingood, about a dozen people contacted Abington police following the arrest saying that they sent greeting cards that never arrived, or sent greeting cards that arrived at their destination missing money or gift cards.

Abington Police arrested Jamie Pamela Fletcher, 25, of Chew Avenue, Philadelphia, on Tuesday, April 23, following a joint investigation with the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General. According to police, the Office of Inspector General reached out to Abington authorities on April 12, saying it believed Fletcher, a U.S. Postal employee, had been stealing from the mail. Police said Fletcher stole $500 and several gift cards while on the job.

Livingood said some of the items were mailed at the Abington location and some were processed through the Abington Post Office.

“We intend, when the case goes up for prosecution, to include these additional reports,” Livingood said. “With that, if the person who has been charged is ordered to make restitution, the [new victims] might be able to get their money back.”

Livingood said Fletcher admitted to several thefts, but wouldn't say exactly how much she admitted to stealing; a preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 15 at 10:30 a.m. in front of District Justice John Kessler.

Fletcher was arrested previously in March 2008 in Upper Moreland for retail theft, according to court documents.
