Timber Closes?
Timber Wood Fired Grill suffers the same fate as The Inn Flight ... but with a much shorter run.
Timber Wood Fired Grill, in the corner of Old York and Woodland roads, appears to have closed permanently — at least that's what the makeshift printer-paper signs on the doors say.
Timber, which opened only in July 2010, replaced the aging Inn Flight Restaurant.
An earlier Abington Patch review said the food was good, but a bit pricey. Another Abington Patch article said that Timber's cuisine and philosophy were completely different than the restaurant it replaced.
From the March 15, 2011 article:
Delivering a full, diverse menu with consistent quality hasn’t been a challenge at all for Timber Wood, [Manager and business partner Michael] Dombkoski said. Instead, it’s been letting Abington residents and visitors know that the new restaurant has opened and is completely different from its old digs.
“People have been aware of (the) location for so long; there’s a lot of people who don’t know we’ve renovated it, and they haven’t been here yet,” Dombkoski said.
The owner could not immediately be reached.
According to a short Philly.com article, the restaurant's manager, Michael Dombkoski, left Timber in autumn for Paramour in Wayne.
The article also says that the restaurant’s liquor license is inactive and that the restaurant paid a $1,250 fine in March for selling booze with an expired license.

Oh no! They served some of the best food I've ever eaten! It was pricey, but the quality of the food was worth it. This is terribly disappointing news.

Timber had an amazing Hamburger. But at $12 for it and what I recall to be a $1+ charge to add cheese it simply didn't compete against the decent and cheaper burgers offered a location like The Cheesecake Factory.

It was in the tradition of the Moshalu (same owners). Same quality but a bit pricey for Abington for daily dining. Sorry to see them close.

It was a bit pricey for unsophisticated Abington folk. $5 extra for a side salad? Make folks happy and throw it in as part of the meal. KB gave them a run for their money. Maybe, Timber should have taken some pointers from sucessful KB and The Drake in Jenkintown, owned by the same family. The food was yummy, but the marketing was very, very poor. Who knew there were lunch or happy hour specials, brunch, etc. Nothing outside would ever give a clue or entice you to come inside. It's a great location and could have been a friendly lunch meeting place or a quiet night spot. Sorry to see it go, and hope something successful can fill it's place.

Maybe Madeleine Dean will buy it and open up a new restaurant. She can call it the " Over Ambitious Greedy Polititian Eatery". She already crapped all over her Ward 7 constituents by running for State rep. Now she can crap all over the 153rd legislative district and try to run a restaurant too.

My group used to go to the InnFlight over about half a dozen evenings every November. They welcomed us, served food & drinks and our party of 30+ people enjoyed ourselves & looked forward to returning the following year. When we contacted Timbers, they weren't interested in keeping their kitchen open, even when we told them that our group had increased to about 60 people. If they don't want our business, then they can go ahead & close. Get someone in there who will serve customers. And I don't care what that previous post says about Abington's "sophistication", you don't serve customers, you don't HAVE customers! Good riddance.
