The Montgomery County Commissioners recognized Abington School District Superintendent Amy Sichel Thursday for her recent election to the presidency of the American Association of School Administrators — the professional organization of more than 13,000 educational leaders.
Sichel will be the first AASA president from Pennsylvania and only the fourth woman to be elected to this position in the organization’s 147 years, according to the Abington School District website.
“As AASA president, I will be a strong advocate for superintendents and school administrators and for high quality public schools,” Sichel in an April 12 AASA press release. “We need to support reforms that improve educational opportunities for all students, promote innovative accountability systems and advocate for the reauthorization of ESEA.”
AASA president and superintendent of the Oconomowoc, (Wisconsin) Area School District Pat Neudecker said, "Amy has held important leadership roles in public education both in Pennsylvania and at the national level. She has been a clear voice for education in the public debate. We welcome her in this new role.”
Sichel will be sworn in as 2012-13 AASA president-elect during a ceremony in Washington, D.C., in July, according to the AASA website.
