SEPTA Announces Greenwood Avenue Bus Detour
The detour for buses — and everyone else — will begin Monday, June 25. The bus detour is expected to add an extra three minutes to the route
SEPTA this week announced its Greenwood Avenue bus detour due to the Greenwood Avenue bridge construction project.
Route 77 will be detoured starting Monday June 25 and will last through Sept. 25, 2013, according to a SEPTA press release.
See the complete Route 77 bus schedule in the PDF section to the right.
The Route 77 detour is as follows:
- Eastbound bus routes will continue on Glenside Avenue, will make a left at Church Road, will make a left onto Old York Road Spur (near the Walgreens and Cheltenham District Court), and will make a left onto Old York Road before resuming the route.
- Westbound bus routes will continue on Old York Road, will turn right onto Old York Spur, right onto Church Road, and will turn right onto Chelten Hills Drive to Glenside Avenue before resuming the regular route.
According to SEPTA, passengers should board on Old York Road at Township Line, and on Glenside Avenue at Greenwood Avenue.
The 24-hour detour will add about three minutes to each trip
Contruction on the bridge will begin June 25.
The 73-year-old, structurally deficient bridge, which crosses SEPTA railroad tracks near the Jenkintown-Wyncote Station, will be replaced with a new, one-span, steel girder bridge, according to a June 7 PennDOT press release.
It is expected to re-open in September 2013.
According to the press release, the new bridge will be 94 feet long, 48 feet wide and will feature three 11-foot-wide lanes, and 5-foot-wide sidewalks.
J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, is the general contractor on the $5.45 million project; the rebuild will be financed with state funds.
Aesthetically speaking, the walls of the new bridge will be given a stained stone look to match other buildings in the area. The bridge will also be given a decorative black fence on top of the bridge walls.
As for the detour, PennDOT said drivers will be diverted along Church Road to Washington Lane, to Township Line Road.
