Carey thanked her family and medical staff, and said that she and her husband have yet to think about arrangements for taking care of six children. The couple already has a 16-month-old daughter.
“As the doctors have already explained, the pregnancy and the delivery were very risky and complicated, but with their superior guidance, we made it through, and now we’re blessed with six beautiful babies," Stacey Carey said. "We already have a 16-month-old daughter, so now our family of nine is complete!"
The last comment drew laughter from the audience.
Doctor Gerard Cleary said all of the babies are in critical condition due to their extremely low birth weight. Each is on a ventilator to assist with breathing. He added that the babies are “not out of the woods” and said that it is “far too early to make predictions” about their prognosis.
Each of the babies is on lung medication, and Cleary said each is responding to the therapy.
Carey took a few questions from the audience and then left the stage with her husband.
