Montco Black Law Enforcement Officers' Banquet Scheduled for Feb. 23
This year's speaker is Montgomery County Chief Public Defender Keir Bradford-Grey.
The Montgomery County Black Law Enforcement Officers Association (MCBLEOA) is holding its 23rd annual banquet at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Westover Country Club, 401 Schuylkill Ave. in Jeffersonville. Tickets are $50 per person.
The MCBLEOA, aimed at promoting "a positive image of minorities in law enforcement and [serving] as role models for young minorities candidates who are seeking a career in law enforcement," according to its website, holds the annual event to honor one of its members. This year's speaker is Montgomery County Chief Public Defender Keir Bradford-Grey.
Bradford-Grey was appointed chief public defender in February 2012 and was recently named a "Woman of Distinction" by the Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia.
The event will begin with an open bar from 6-7 p.m., followed by dinner and a cash bar at 7 p.m. Dinner will be followed by dancing.
Advertising space is available in the banquet's souvenir program book. Prices are $30 for a 1/4 page ad, $50 for a half-page ad, and $75 for a full page. Payment and finished advertisements are due by Feb. 2.

I know the irish, italians, and every other ethnicity has a group, but I find it disturbing. All of them. If cops wanted to form a group based on common interests, like football, service projects, you name it-cool. But to continue to isolate ourselves by ethnicity- wake up and join 2013.

Pat, many folks have a drink with dinner, and this is a cash bar, followed by dancing. To suggest that police cannot control themselves, when the general population can, should be supported by some evidence.

I have too much respect for the police officers of this county, who put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe, to ignore the flat out ignorant comments associate with this article.It's really embarrassing for the area. I hope they have a great event and raise a lot of money for their good cause.

John Q. I have the greatest respect for All police officers and no doubt this organization is doing a fine job promoting their cause. I fail to understand WHY they would subject theirselves to criticism by serving alcohol (open & cash bar) at their banquet. It is common knowledge if you have one or two drinks with dinner and are stopped by police you may be cited for DUI. How is this promoting a POSITIVE IMAGE?

One example would be state trooper Barry Searfoss, who after leaving a charity golf outing at five ponds golf course this summer that was being held in rememberance of a young woman killed by a drunk driver, slammed his truck into the back of a car on the turnpike, killing the driver. Searfos blew a .188.

Cops don't always know better, in fact they MIGHT be worse as they feel they are above the law and if stopped the officer would let them go.

Wow, these comments are amazing...people almost ALWAYS find a way to criticize black people in positions of authority...but when white police officers hold "fund raisers" for family members of loved ones that may have been killed, they are usually serving alcohol at those events...so "Pat", I guess that's ok huh? we ALL know this IS still about race...don't be silly!
