Abington Police Deputy Chief John Livingood said today that the man who was struck by a Lansdale-Doylestown regional rail train at the North Hills train station was a 20-year-old man from Ardsley.

According to Abington Police, the man entered the track area and tried to cross the fence separating the tracks at the station. When the victim saw the westbound train, he attempted to return to the platform. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.

“All indications are that this was an accident, but a follow-up investigation will be done by SEPTA Police and the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office,” Livingood said in a press release.

A man apparently died at the North Hills train station Thursday night.

Abington and SEPTA police, and EMS staff were on the scene at the train station in the North Hills section of Abington.

A SEPTA representative said the man—who has not yet been identified—was struck by a train at about 6:15 p.m.

“A man was killed by a Lansdale-Doylestown regional rail train coming from Center City and heading toward Doylestown,” Andrew Busch, a spokesman for SEPTA said.

A white sheet covered the man, who was laying several feet from the northbound tracks; there were several puddles of blood on the platform. The body was loaded into a Montgomery County Coroner’s van at about 8:15 p.m.

The coroner and a SEPTA Police Lieutenant both declined to comment.

One SEPTA police officer was overheard saying, "Two bodies in two days? I'm getting tired of this [expletive]."

The cause of death and the matter is under investigation. The Montgomery County medical examiner will investigate the case.

Trains appeared to be running under a normal schedule at about 10:15 p.m., though the PA system said trains may be delayed due to “police activity.” Several train passengers who got off at the station stopped to look at the orange chalk outline on the platform. The platform was wet from being hosed down and fresh salt had been applied.

A train is stopped at the intersection of Pennsylvania and Linden avenues in Upper Dublin Township. At 7:15 p.m. rescue crews were called out for a "rescue other than water" according to the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety's Web CAD system.

It is believed that a pedestrian was struck by the train near the North Hills station. While authorities have not yet confirmed the status of the individual, a person was taken from the scene on a stretcher.

Firefighters from Fort Washington Fire Department were seen entering and exiting the first car of the train.

The Second Alarmers are also on the scene to assist.

A fire truck is being used to remove passengers from the SEPTA regional rail train.
