Halloween is Saturday, for Abington

Due to the storm, the Abington Board of Commissioners is moving trick-or-treating back to Saturday.

The Abington Board of Commissioners has designated Saturday, Nov. 3, as trick-or-treat night in Abington, according to Board of Commissioners President Carol DiJoseph.

DiJoseph said in an email that the commissioners made it Saturday to avoid problems in the street, as too many people are still without power.

“Many people have inquired about designating a certain night for trick or treating,” DiJoseph said in an email. “This is certainly a special time for our kids and we don't want them to miss the excitement. However, with power lines down, street lights out, and debris here and there, tomorrow night may be a bit risky. Therefore Abington Township is designating Saturday night November 3rd as Trick or Treat Night.

DiJoseph recommended that trick-or-treaters hit the streets between 3 and 6 p.m.

“While not everyone is going to get this message, hopefully the majority of kids will,” she continued.

At the risk of sounding like a kid, Wouldn't two Halloween's be awesome?!?! I mean yeah for us adults it sucks, but woo hoo two halloweens

I am new to the area (first home yay!) And am looking forward to having this site as a resource for all things local, maybe this site can become a stronger source for local info-But yeah I definitely agree with you, if I hadn't heard this word of mouth (which also found their source on facebook) I would have never known!

I told the two little girls and their moms that came to my door that we'd see them again on Saturday. :) After that, one more little girl came out and that was it...I shut the door.

I didn't hear about this at all. My husband and I don't have kids, but I did buy about 18 bags of candy because the past 2 years, since we moved here, we've run out! It was only when I looked at the clock and it was 6:22 that my husband suggested to check Abington Patch. Sure enough...we found the answer here...as usual. We'll be seeing all of you Trick or Treaters on Saturday!

So this really is true? I grew up in Abington, and am visiting family now with my two boys for the weekend; would love to take them around on Saturday since they missed Halloween due to travel on Wed...did people really not trick or treat on Wed in Abington? And are neighbors in general expecting halloween on Saturday, or will we be knocking on confused peoples' doors?
