On the heels of the recently re-opened Giant stores (née Genuardi's) in Huntingdon Valley and Roslyn, representatives from Giant Food Stores presented two $500 checks to the Abington Police DARE program.
Each year, Abington’s DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program serves about 700 students attending public, private and parochial schools in Abington Township.
With recent cuts in state grants for DARE, the Abington Township Police Department has had to find alternate sources of funding to keep the program running.
Abington Police Chief William Kelly:
“We at the Abington Township Police Department are so pleased to be able to add Giant Food Stores to our growing list of partners who want to help us make a difference in the lives of our young people. This partnership is just another reason why Abington has been named consistently by America’s Promise as one of the ‘100 Best Communities for Young People’ in the U.S and is, in fact, the only 5-time winner in Pennsylvania.”
