Five Things for Abington This Week

It's going to be an event-filled week.

The graduates

Abington Senior High School will hold its commencement ceremony tonight at 7 p.m. at Schwarzman Stadium. Speakers include:

  • Valedictorian Andrew Brenner (Johns Hopkins University)
  • Salutatorian Maria Arisi (University of Pennsylvania)
  • Whitney Pollard (Saint Joseph’s University)
  • Chris Ruhl (Lehigh University)

This event has been pushed back to Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Commissioners

Thursday June 14 at 8 p.m. is the Abington Board of Commissioners meeting. The board may appoint a new commissioner to replace Les Benzak (Ward 6), who stepped down in May. See more here

Flag Day

Veterans Grove at Roslyn Park will hold a Flag Day ceremony on ... Flag Day, June 14, at 8 p.m. The public is invited to this patriotic event. See more about Veterans Grove at Roslyn Park here.

Not the Sixers

The NBA Finals starts tonight at 9 p.m. on ABC — it’s the Miami Heat at the Oklahoma City Thunder. LeBron haters/lovers rejoice.

Also, the 8-and-a-half-games-back Phillies will be playing the 8-and-a-half-games-back Twins in Minneapolis. The Phillies-Twins series begins tonight at 8 p.m. on CSN.

Used stuff!

The Glenside Gardens’ Civic Association will host its 16th annual yard sale on Saturday, June 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Those participating in the yard sale — the area bounded by Highland Avenue, Easton Road, Charles Street and Jenkintown Road — are asked to donate proceeds from the sale of one or two items to the Glenside Gardens' Civic Association.
