Eastern Alumna's Family Sponsors Award
Taylor Landon's family 'beat her to the punch' in donating to the school.
This year, Eastern Center for Arts and Technology added a new award thanks to the family of a 2010 culinary arts student and Cheltenham High School graduate.
Taylor Landon’s parents, Shawn and Roger Graham, created the Shawn and Roger Graham Hospitality Award — a $250 award for a hard working Eastern senior moving from the culinary arts program to a community college program and who has good attendance.
The Grahams said they sponsored the award because they felt Eastern has been a big part of Landon’s accomplishments in college and in life. Landon received multiple scholarships when she graduated from Eastern, which helped her pay for community college. The Grahams said they wanted to help another student who was following a similar path.
Upper Dublin high School senior Tymere Davis, who plans to attend Montgomery County Community College in the fall, received the award this year. Eastern recognizes student achievement at its awards night each May through its educational foundation.
Landon recently completed her associate’s degree in hospitality management at MCCC. This autumn, she will begin pursuing her bachelor’s degree in hospitality management at Temple University. After completing her education, Landon said she hopes to work in hospitality on an international level.
“This was my graduation present from my parents,” Landon said. “I was very surprised when they told me about it. I have always said that when I am successful I will give a scholarship to Eastern for culinary arts students. My parents just beat me to the punch.”
Eastern has agreements with many colleges and universities that consider work completed at Eastern equivalent to college-level work. Students in Eastern’s culinary arts program can receive up to nine credits at Montgomery County Community College; up to 14 credits at Bucks County Community College; and up to nine quarter credits at Johnson & Wales University.
