The township flag was at half mast and there was a black cloth draped around the statue outside of the township building on Wednesday. Inside, Abington Public Safety Committee Chairman James Ring called for a moment of silence for Ed Momorella prior to the meeting.

Momorella, a Hatboro resident and the township’s emergency management administrator, died Tuesday morning. He was 67.

“Probably a lot of people don’t know what a tremendous public servant that Ed was,” Abington Police Chief William Kelly said.  

Kelly then listed Momorella’s accolades and past jobs.

“He was obviously a pretty incredible individual … certainly, his passing is a loss,” Kelly continued. “The amount of phone calls we got [regarding his death] was overwhelming because he was loved by so many.”

Following the meeting, Kelly said, “Ed touched so many people in so many ways in so many venues. He was loved by all and he was a remarkable man.”

Kelly also said that no municipality in the state is better equipped to handle an emergency situation … and he attributed that to Momorella’s work.

Viewings will be held on Monday, April 9 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.; and on Tuesday, April 10 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at John J. Bryers Funeral Home, 406 North Easton Road, Willow Grove.

Following the Mass, a procession will travel past the township building. Momorella will be cremated; interment will be private.
