Castor Starts New Website, Spurs More Governor Race Speculation

A new website has many guessing at Bruce Castor's intent come the 2014 Pennsylvania governor race.

He's got a spiffy new site, and it surely doesn't seem to just be about Montgomery County.

Current Republican Minority Montgomery County Commissioner Bruce Castor has launched a new website, brucecastor.com, and from its logo of the state of Pennsylvania to its contents encompassing every topic from his biography to a donation contribution page, the site has many guessing it may be one of the first steps toward a candidacy in the 2014 governor race.

Patch began reporting about the speculations of possible candidacy back in December of 2012 with a report outlining his history. Should Castor make a run at the ticket, it would not be the first time he's competed against current Gov. Tom Corbett.

"Corbett and Castor have a storied history, including a 2004 Republican primary race for Attorney General," said a December Patch report. "The Republican State Committee endorsed Corbett for the post and Castor ran a grassroots campaign throughout the state, losing the nomination by five points."

PoliticsPA.com noticed the new site. It called his creation a "move" in that direction.

"I will press the Legislature to break the Iron Triangle by restoring the legislative branch to the part-time, term limited body that our founding fathers created," reads the Castor website. The phrase was cited on Politics PA as just one "hint" at the run.

The site also includes a link the PCN interview in which Castor called his interest an increase from "sticking his toe" in the waters of the race to then (Jan. 22) being "more up to the ankles."

In a Patch report on Jan. 23, Castor said "I want Pennsylvania to be a conservative state, but with pragmatism and practicality. I don't see those things happening, but I'm watching." He also noted he would not just run to "make a splash."

Castor has lived all of his life in Montgomery County, and still resides in Lower Salford with his wife and two children. What will the future bring for the now 51-year-old commissioner?

Perhaps more will be revealed at a March 27 dinner from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The Blue Bell-based Philadelphia Aviation Country Club will play host to the $125-per-plate fundraising dinner held by the Friends of Bruce Castor.

For now, intrigued voters can monitor Castor's "Vision" by checking his live website, which seems to speak much more about the state than the county.

If given the power to hire a governor, the rational, experienced, unemotional person would study the performance records of the two candidates (facts not to be disputed) to decide which will most benefit himself and Pennsylvania. Unfortunately voters don't seem to apply logic, but if by some miracle they do:

Bruce Castor was twice elected Montgomery County District Attorney from 2000 to 2008. He was elected as County Commissioner in 2007 when, because of an unexpected power-sharing deal between Republican Jim Matthews and Democrat Joe Hoeffel, he was locked out of county governance. However, when Democrats Josh Shapiro and Leslie Richards swept into office in 2011, he went from cantankerous opposition to constructive partner and many of his complaints about his previous colleagues were vindicated. Philadelphia Inquirer writers apologized to Bruce. All throughout his county governance career, Castor has established for himself a verifiable record of telling the truth and fiscal responsibility. He cast more ‘no’ votes against wasteful spending than any commissioner in history combined.

or,

Allyson Schwartz. In Congress, she has a verifiable performance record: http://votesmart.org/candidate/key-votes/5239/allyson-schwartz#.UTOib1dWWIk

Paging through her voting record, one finds the typical tax-and-spend pattern shared by her colleagues in the White House and Senate that have irresponsibly put us now $16 Trillion in debt.

Thanks, Ms. Treacy.

NO more republicans. We're 16 Trillion in debt. The last thing this country needs is another tax and spend republican to push us futher in debt.

Huh most Dems are very upset about Corbett's fiscal conservativeness and budget cuts in PA, so it is interesting that you are upset about Republicans spending?

And what is it that seperates Mr. Castor from our self-serving " don't tax the gas drilling companies", "He could have stopped Sandusky in his tracks in 1999 4ever" Mr. Corbett? Isn't it really just more of the same just a different face?

Good site. And I would bet it was made without union involvement.

Castor running will make a total of 2 lousy Republican candidates running for governor. Corbett has consistently governed against the best interests of the people of Pennsylvania since he got in. The only thing he's accomplished is lining his own pockets with kick-backs. Castor is proven, self-serving creep.

I'll have to look into Allyson Schwartz, but at the moment, it seems like she might be the best option.

Castor sat around and let Matthews and Hoeffel waste millions of dollars and acted like he was unable to do anything about it. Now all he does is whine about them. The whole idea that he even has the gravitas to "change the legislature to part time" after he couldn't control Matthews is beyond laughable. Now he's gonna run the legislature out of Harrisburg. Give me some of what he's smoking. Try to get them on term limits first, pay reductions second and that's at least an 8 year process. Why doesn't he agree to not take a salary if he's so concenred about our money.

Kicking this subject with criticism is not helping any of us. We all realize that the current governor is wasting everyone's time & money on non-useful issues, instead of being concentrated on the individuals that live in PA. Nothing he is doing is revealing any skills We need an individual in power to eliminate him entirely. Besides the name calling & judgement calls mentioned, does anyone have a good suggestion WHO would be a good governor to get the job done correctly? It doesn't matter what party so don't start that debate. It's the person who has shown leadership & strength to get over this mess. I can't help but think that when Christie came into office everyone was grumbling. Now he has made it further in the polls than Corbett.
Based on the Penn State fiasco, he should be eliminated from rerunning entirely until a decision has passed by the judge what his involvement was & the things he ignored as DA.
Before ripping Castor apart, there may be reasons that he had to take a back seat to the Montco fiasco until now. There have been pro-active decisions within the last few weeks & time will tell how he can accomplish a few positive decisions before moving on. A better environment for the people of Montgomery County.
jxjipper - Don't blame the Matthews mess on Castor, no one can handle Matthews, haven't you read the paper or patch in the last couple weeks? You aren't doing your homework. Matthews family think they are holier than thou.

Yeah I really believe all the Times Herald reporting but, some young girl out of college could figure out Hoeffel, Matthews and the other creep were meeting at the Jem but Castor was too sharp to figure it out. What the hell did Corbett do to you? Did Sandusky get convicted? Or wasn't there enough showboating and style points by Corbett to make you happy? The less I hear about government (Silent Tom as opposed to Cheesesteak "in your face Eagles color man" Ed) interfering my life the better. Besides, Obama is yapping about something every day like a Jack Russel Terrier.

I find it refreshing that we have not had a tax increase in three years. I also find it refreshing that there are no scandals. Sometimes the best government is the government that governs least!!! Corbett is no Rendell, but that is refreshing as well. Aren't you tired of celebrity politicians??? The budget is balanced, he wants to bring the Commonwealth into the 21st century by selling off the liquor stores. Too boring, want crises, drama, then elect Ms. Schwartz or Mr. Castor.

Agreed. Best government stays out of the way of private enterprise, and keeps its hands out of my pockets. With government, less is always better.

from PoliticsPA

Corbett leads hypothetical Republican primary challenger Bruce Castor, a Montgomery County Commissioner, 43% to 23% in this poll. That’s a 20 point move in Castor’s favor since PPP’s January survey, when he trailed 51% to 11%.

A politician exposed by investigative journalists for telling the truth and never selling out taxpayers. Seems like word is spreading.

Jack I would vote for for anyone before I would ever for for Allyson Schwartz. John Street, Milton Street, Man on the Street, Hugo Chavez (in or out of his current residence) The idiots on this board should be campaigning for Corbett so in 6 years they can get their new Governess Kathleen Kane. It is pretty transparent what she in angling for. With a pocket full of viagra, Bill Clinton will be here all the time campaigning for her while Hillary is busy looking for the first Dude.
