Abington Rolls Out the Red Carpet for PAL
The Abington PAL Food Festival is the largest fundraiser for the organization; it was held last night at the Philmont Country Club.
The Abington organization held its tenth annual Food Festival. It’s the biggest fundraiser of the year according to Abington Police Chief William Kelly.
“It’s in its tenth year, and it’s clearly the biggest ever. I think all of Abington’s here and if this doesn’t show the great cooperative spirit of Abington, I don’t know what does,” Kelly said. “This is far and away the largest fundraiser [for Abington PAL] and by having so many people come together, it really emphasizes what a community organization PAL is.”
Many guests dressed up as their favorite movie character, keeping with the “Hooray for PAL-lywood” theme. The event was so well attended, it was hard to walk around.
The event also honored retired Montgomery County Chief Detective Oscar Vance. Vance was instrumental in brining the Food Festival to Abington.
“We didn’t re-invent the wheel, we brought the wheel down here to Abington, and people really accepted the idea. It just keeps growing,” Vance said.
On being honored, Vance said, “It’s a great experience. Being born and raised in Abington, I’m glad I could help make a difference in this community.”
Abington Commissioner Peggy Myers said last week that the event will likely bring in $100,000 for the organization.
