Alleged Helzberg Diamonds Thief in Custody
A Hatboro resident was apprehended Sunday in connection with an Abington ring theft.
The Hatboro man alleged to have stolen a $5,500 ring was apprehended Sunday afternoon, police said.
Daniel Cairns, 37, of the unit block of Woodland Avenue, was taken into custody, reportedly in Maryland, Sunday afternoon. It was not clear if the pricy ring Cairns was alleged to have snatched from a clerk Monday at Helzberg Diamonds in Abington was recovered. Abington police said they were unable to release details.
A warrant had been issued for Cairn's arrest Wednesday. Police had said they hoped he would have turned himself in.
According to court documents, the Plymouth Township Police Department arrested Cairns Nov. 6 for retail theft and for possession of a controlled substance. Cairns posted bail the same day, according to court documents.
He was formally arraigned March 9—five days before he allegedly stole the ring.
