Turnout was light to about average at the polls at Abington Library at about 10 a.m.

There was one glitch, though.

According to Dottie Morse, a member of the Montgomery County Republican Committee, there was a problem with one of the Republican voting booths. A county official came to repair the problem — apparently the “hearing impaired” function was being activated accidentally. Still, Morse said seven Republican voters had to be turned away; one returned, though.

All of the voting machines appeared to be working properly at about 11 a.m.

Democratic candidate for the 153^rd legislative district Madeleine Dean voted with her husband.  Prior to voting, she said felt energized, and added that she has great people working with her.

She called voting for herself “a very funny feeling.”

“I have to tell you, the very first time the very first time that I voted, I was 18 years old, and I was asked to run for committee woman, and I voted for myself in my first election,” Dean said. “It’s almost old-hat, but it’s not," she said jokingly. ”But it’s an honor to be able to be on the ballot. I’m delighted.”

After she voted, she said she would like to change her response.
“It feels really special.”

Her opponent, Republican candidate Nick Mattiacci, votes at 12:30 p.m. in Elkins Park.

Update:

Republican Candidate for the 153^rd legislative district Nick Mattiacci arrived at Elkins Park Presbyterian Church at about 12:30 p.m. with his wife and two young sons in tow.

He said it’s the first time he’s ever voted for himself. He called the experience “a little different.”

Mattiacci said voter turnout has been slow, but steady. 

On his first foray into politics, he said, “It’s been a tough campaign. It’s two people who really want this. I’m feeling pretty good; we worked hard.”

Mattiacci said he was going to spend some time at his poling place, and then added that he was going to visit other polling places in the township.
