More than 5 large in fake credit card purchases and 'Traversing' the Jenkintown
Access device fraud, forgery, identity theft … Charlotta Abbott, 44, no known address, was arrested April 4 following an investigation into two separate wallet thefts in which she racked up more than $5,756 in fraudulent credit card purchases, police said. According to police, Abbott stole a wallet from a purse on June 10 at Levy Medical Plaza in the 1200 block of Old York Road. Abbott then used the stolen credit cards to make a $276 purchase at Giant in the 1400 block of Old York Road; a $1,426 purchase of a watch at Macy’s; a $1,014 gift card purchase at CVS; and a $1,017 gift card purchase at Acme in Jenkintown.
On Sept.9, there was a wallet theft at Bloomingdale’s. The complainant’s Bloomingdale’s American Express card was used to purchase two gift cards totaling $1,014 at a CVS in Warminster; shortly after, another fraudulent purchase in the amount of $1,013 was made at Walgreens in Lower Southampton.
Abbott was identified through video surveillance.
Possession of a controlled substance and false identification to law enforcement … Anthony Martin Murphy, of the 2000 block of Bridle Lane, Oreland, was arrested Jan. 30 at 11:09 p.m. following a traffic stop for driving with a malfunctioning headlight near the corner of Woodland and Thomson roads, police said. According to police, Murphy had a clear jar on his lap containing a confirmed synthetic cannabinoid known as K2 or JWH-01. Murphy, who initially said his name was Anthony Burns, was driving with a suspended license.
DUI and driving with a suspended license … Jane Gwiazdowski-Drury, 51, of the 200 block of Summit Avenue, Jenkintown, was arrested Feb. 15 at 1:05 p.m. after she flipped her Chevrolet Traverse on its side after she crashed into a parked car in the 2100 block of Jenkintown Road, police said. According to police, Gwiazdowski-Drury was not injured; she exited the vehicle through the rear door with the assistance of Abington Fire Department officials.
There were several bottles of alcohol in the vehicle, including an open bottle of vodka near the driver’s seat, police said. An investigation revealed that Gwiazdowski-Drury did not attempt to stop or slow down before she crashed. Her blood alcohol content was 0.159 percent.
Burglary and criminal trespassing … Quinten Watts, 22, of Prospect Avenue, Willow Grove; and Dane Edward Sarden, 21, of Fairview Avenue, Willow Grove, were arrested after Sarden provided a written statement to police on Feb. 20 admitting to his role and Watts’ role in two separate burglaries in December, police said. According to police, the first burglary involved the theft of $3,000 worth of transmissions and radiators from Aamco Transmissions in the 1600 block of Old York Road; the items were stolen from an area secured by a locked fence and barbed wire. The other incident involved the theft of $2,000 worth of copper piping from a plumbing company in the 2300 block of Heston Street. According to police, the owner of the company saw two men — via security tape — remove the copper pipes from two vehicles parked in a driveway. The men then fled in an SUV.
Robbery … Demetrius Olwa Femi Wright-Ford, 18, of Thomas Avenue, Philadelphia, was arrested March 21 at 4:35 p.m. at Macy’s after he was seen on closed-circuit TV concealing three Polo brand shirts and attempting to leave without paying, police said. According to police, when Wright-Ford was confronted by a Macy’s loss prevention officer, he screamed, “I’m not taking clothes.” Wright-Ford then got into a scuffle with the Macy’s loss prevention officer; two other loss prevention officers assisted in getting Wright-Ford detained.
Retail theft … Colleen Patricia Silvestri, 34, of Upland Avenue, Horsham, was arrested March 20 at 3:24 p.m. in Macy’s in Willow Grove Park mall after she concealed a pair of AG jeans, valued at $178, in a bag while in a in a fitting room and left without attempting to pay, police said.
