The Abington Police Athletic League is sponsoring a free dental screening and sealant day on Saturday, Feb. 23.

Boys and girls ages 6-18 will be seen in one of two local dentists’ offices between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

With parent permission, children will be evaluated for tooth decay, gum disease, occlusion (their bite), and oral hygiene.  Those who are cavity free will have their permanent molars protected from future decay with the application of dental sealants.  Participants who are diagnosed with decay, mal-occlusion or other dental disease may have x-rays taken and will have their conditions noted and presented to parents in written form.  Families will also be given a resource guide to help if they do not have a dentist or means to afford routine dental care.

A medical history and signed consent slip will be required for this free service.  All children ages 6-10 must be accompanied by a parent. Names and information about participating children will be kept confidential.

Currently, fewer than 40 spaces remain. Interested families should contact Melissa Gargan in Abington Township Police Department’s Community Policing Division at 267-536-1072 to sign up for a spot and obtain the required paperwork.
