Abington Fire Marshal Ken Clark said today that Weldon Fire Fighter David Kelble Jr. died yesterday following an injury he suffered Nov. 21 in Lower Southampton.

Kelble, of Glenside, was 32. He leaves behind his wife Jacqueline and two children, a 3-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old son.

According to Clark, Kelble was working at his regular job, with a tree company, when he suffered a traumatic head injury. He was transported to St. Mary Medical Center in Bucks County and died Sunday.

“Evidently he was dispatched to Lower Southampton where there was a tree leaning against another tree. There was a crew rigging it up and a large branch broke and hit him directly in the head. He never regained consciousness,” Clark said.

Kelble was an organ donor and the family said that several people in
Pennsylvania, and one person from out of state, have already received a donated organ.

Clark said the atmosphere is somber at the fire company. 

"He was a nice young man," Clark said.

Kelble had been a volunteer fire fighter with Weldon Fire Co. since January 2005, Clark said; prior to that, Kelble was with Fort Washington Fire Co.

A beef and beer to benefit the Kelble family is scheduled for Jan. 26 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the North Penn VFW on Jenkintown Road.
